One crew, one mobilization

The Combined Crew

Finish carpentry and painting from one cross-trained crew, in one mobilization. Carpenters install, spackle and caulk as they go. Painters follow immediately. No waiting on another trade, no second scheduling call, no gap in the schedule where the unit sits empty.

04The combined crew

Three steps.
One mobilization.

Most contractors hand a unit from the trim carpenter to a painter from another company, and the unit sits empty in between. We run one cross-trained crew, so the hand-off happens across the room, not across a week.

Install

Finish carpenters set baseboard, casing and sills. Black shirts. The cut list is done unit by unit so nothing waits on a delivery.

Prep

The same carpenters spackle the nail holes and caulk the joints as they go. No separate prep visit, no gap while someone else is scheduled.

Paint

Painters follow immediately. White shirts. Cut in, roll, done. One mobilization, one contact, one schedule for the whole finish package.

Why it matters to a schedule

On a multi-unit turnover the cost is not the paint or the trim. It is the day the unit sits finished on one side and waiting on the other. Every hand-off between companies is a scheduling call, a site visit and a gap. Removing the hand-off removes all three.

Why it matters to the finish

The carpenter who caulks their own joint knows where the joint is. The painter who follows an hour later is painting a surface that was prepped for painting, not for hand-over. The finish line is the same on unit forty as on unit one.

Where it came from

Seb runs the crew this way because a client asked for painting and the trim was always waiting on someone else. Cross-training the crew was the fix. He believes Guardian was the first in Moncton to run finish and paint as one team.
